Bolsonaro has been detained after authorities determined he posed a definite escape threat while under domestic detention.

The former head of state was found guilty of orchestrating a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in incarceration, but he was staying under confinement pending appeals.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the decision to arrest the elderly politician was a preventative measure after recent developments emerged.

This involved seeking to disable his ankle monitor and a summons to a demonstration that could facilitate a chance to flee".

Legal Document Reveals Escape Concerns

In a filing authorising the detention, the judge said intelligence from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's plan to remove the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his flight.

This, it said, would be made easier by the confusion caused by the protest called by his offspring.

His offspring, Flávio Bolsonaro, who works as a legislator, called for a gathering of his followers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on digital networks on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your settee? I urge you to fight with us."

He said the demonstration would be so followers could offer prayers for his health and for the restoration of democratic rule in our land."

Embassy Asylum Concerns

Part of the magistrate's decision was the possibility of his move to embassies near the residence, considering that the investigations revealed a record of organizing to request asylum through a consular facility", a declaration said.

The judicial paperwork emphasizes that the United States embassy in the capital, Brasilia, is positioned around approximately 13 kilometers from the former president's residence.

Global Responses

The former president's legal troubles have provoked anger from fellow populist conservative US President Trump, causing him to implement a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

The former president is being kept in a Federal Police station in Brazil's capital city and will undergo a detention review on the following day.

Latest Court Petitions

It was only on last Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the High Court to authorize him to complete his entire prison term under domestic detention, with tracking devices.

They also requested that Bolsonaro be allowed to exit his dwelling for medical care, saying he demanded ongoing care for lung conditions and other ailments.

Context of Sentencing

Bolsonaro was convicted of orchestrating a plot aimed at retaining his authority after he lost the national vote to his left-wing rival, Lula.

Supreme Court justices said that he had knowledge of a scheme which included plans to assassinate his opponent and his vice-presidential running mate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to imprison and murder Alexandre de Moraes - the High Court judge who has been overseeing his judicial proceedings.

The scheme was prevented because it failed to get the backing of the military leaders. The current president was took office without issue on January 1st, 2023.

But a seven days after, on 8 January, thousands of Bolsonaro supporters stormed and vandalised public facilities in the capital, Brazil's capital.

The police stepped in and around 1,500 people were arrested.

The magistrates found that the protesters had been provoked by him whose plan, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, bring back stability and bring him back to power.

At the period, the legal team called the over 27-year sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also prohibited from campaigning for office until 2060 - eight years later after the completion of his term.

The one-time head of state called the trial a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him competing in the next presidential race.
